Kyle Muller, LHP, Jesuit College Prep (TX)

As much as people talk about the Cardinals taking college pitchers like Michael Wacha and Marco Gonzales in recent years and fast-tracking them to the big leagues, they’ve taken a ton of prep pitchers in the early rounds as well. Muller, who seems to closely fit the profile of the front-of-the-rotation starters that the Cardinals usually covet, would be a logical choice at pick 23. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Texan already touches the mid-90s with his fastball, and obviously he’d have time to further develop that velocity since he’s just 18 years old.

Muller will have to be lured away from a college commitment to Texas and needs to develop his curveball and changeup, but he’d be a great addition to an organization that could really use a high-upside lefty now that Rob Kaminsky has been traded and Gonzales’s prospect status has plummeted.
