14. Miami Dolphins- Quinten Rollins, DB, Miami (OH)
Quinten Rollins is certainly somewhat of an unknown quantity—after all, he only played one season of college football—but his athleticism and 2014 production make him the defensive back with the highest ceiling in this year’s draft class.
Rollins was a prolific point guard for four seasons at Miami of Ohio, finishing 12th all-time in the MAC in steals. After deciding to join the football team for his senior year, though, Rollins was immediately impactful, collecting seven interceptions on the way to winning the MAC Defensive Player of the Year award.
The 6-foot, 203-pound Rollins definitely has the skills to be an impactful corner at the next level, as his physicality, vertical jumping ability, and surprisingly polished positioning skills will benefit him. Some believe that he lacks the short-burst speed necessary to be a corner and will be a better fit at safety, but either way he’s good enough as a tackler and playmaker that he should be able to quickly make a difference in a team’s secondary. With Miami’s starting corners, Brent Grimes and Cortland Finnegan, both over age 30 and the team’s defensive backfield lacking much star power, Rollins could be a major addition to the Dolphins’ defense.
