85. August Busch*

Busch never played an inning of professional baseball–and no Cardinal has ever worn No. 85–and yet the number is still retired for the longtime Redbirds owner. In a decision that was certainly good-hearted but seems rather odd today, the Cardinals decided to retire No. 85 for Busch’s 85th birthday back in 1984. Good thing Lastings Milledge never ended up in St. Louis–that might have been awkward.
