Anthony Kay, LHP, Connecticut

Kay, an undersized lefty with a low-90s fastball, is somewhat reminiscent of Rob Kaminsky, another lefty that the Cardinals drafted a few years ago before trading him to Cleveland last summer. Since the Cards no longer have Kaminsky and don’t know if they’re ever going to get anything out of Marco Gonzales, Kay might be intriguing at the end of the first round as a high-ceiling, medium-floor lefty who can rise quickly.

Kay, who had a 9-2 record, 2.65 ERA, .223 opponent batting average, 111 strikeouts, and 37 walks in 17 starts (119 innings) this season, has been mentioned by Jim Callis as a pitcher who the Cardinals could consider at pick 33 or 34.
