St Louis Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong has been raising a lot of eyebrows in the major leagues the past few days. Make no mistake, Wong has always shown that he is a great option at second base for the Cardinals. He is an obvious starter for them, playing very well and last year’s postseason. This year, Wong has been one of the best players on the team. Not even in just terms of stats either, it is also Wong’s durability that has been a great constant for the Cardinals due to all of the injuries they have seen. Wong is batting .281, with nine home runs, 18 doubles, and 37 RBIs. Wong is also a great speed addition to the Cardinals, stealing eight bases so far this season.

The batting average numbers are nice, but where Wong has really been impressing the league is in his defense. One might look at the numbers, and see that Wong has already nine errors this season alone. Although this Is not a terrible number, it doesn’t really show how great his defense is.

But these videos do.

There is so much to be impressed with on this play. The ball was hit sharply away from the bag, and Wong had to immediately spear the ball and turn around to make a hard throw from his knees. The sheer speed of this double play and how fast it was turned are the most impressive aspects of it.

Another impressive catch. This catch is impressive as the amount of concentration it takes to make this play might surprise you. Wong also prevented a few runs from this play, which likely saved the game for the Cardinals.

This is the play that Kolton was hurt on. Kolten Struggled to find his footing as he turned around for the ball, but after making a spectacular catch, you can clearly see his face hit the ground. At first it doesn’t appear as if his head hit very hard, but it doesn’t take much to get a concussion.

Cardinals fans hope the injury to Wong is not serious, so they can continue to see more plays like these.
