Kolten Wong Exits Game With Head Contusion
By Nic Moody
St Louis Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong left the game Tuesday against the Chicago Cubs with an apparent head injury. There has not been any word on the status of the concussion test the Cardinals have issued him. He was kept out of the second game of the doubleheader, and will likely be evaluated further either tonight or tomorrow.
Kolten Wong stepped backwards on a short hit by Cubs catcher Miguel Montero to right field, turning around and making a diving catch, as he has been doing for the last few days. Unfortunately, Wong was very slow to get up as he laid on the grass for a few moments until he was helped up by teammate Jason Heyward. After that, trainers headed onto the field to check Wong out to make sure he was okay. Wong would come in the next inning to bat, but would strike out and then be immediately removed from the game. Matt Carpenter then replaced Wong at second base for the remainder of the game. The Cardinals have officially labeled the injury as a “head contusion”, and decided to keep him out for the second game of tonight’s doubleheader versus the Cubs.
Wong has had three top 10 plays on defense in the last three games, and is batting .281 with nine home runs this season. Cardinals fans hope Wong isn’t out very long, as the team has already seen its share of injuries this season with the All Star game yet to come.
We will let you know more once the evaluation is done.
