2015 NFL Mock Draft: Post-Super Bowl Edition

17. San Diego Chargers- T.J. Clemmings, OT, Pittsburgh
Here’s a rarity that probably will not come to fruition with the host of draft-day trades that are bound to happen: no offensive tackles come off the board until the 17th pick. Even though this scenario is unlikely, the fact remains that there’s not a lot of certainty in this year’s tackle class. Many evaluators see two of the top tackle prospects, LSU’s La’El Collins and Iowa’s Brandon Scherff, as guards at the next level, and Clemmings has the disadvantage of never having played left tackle while only having been an offensive lineman for two years. Combine that with the fact that a disproportionately high number of teams have selected tackles early in the past couple years, and there shouldn’t be as much demand as usual at the tackle position in this year’s draft.
San Diego would be a good landing spot for Clemmings, an athletic former defensive end, as he could be plugged in at right tackle, where he played during the past two years at Pitt, with incumbent D.J. Fluker expected to move inside to guard during 2015. Things could change if left tackle King Dunlap leaves as a free agent, but as things stand now, the Chargers should be able to get Clemmings, the tackle prospect with the highest potential in this year’s class, and get him accustomed to the NFL at his college position.
