2015 NFL Mock Draft: Post-Super Bowl Edition

18. Kansas City Chiefs- Arik Armstead, DT/DE, Oregon
Kansas City’s core has aged a bit, and they need to retool at several positions this offseason. Ideally, they’d probably like to find a dependable number one receiver here, but there are too many questions surrounding the top remaining wideouts, Dorial Green-Beckham and Sammie Coates, to spend a top-20 pick on either of them. Instead, the Chiefs find a player who will give them more production at the 3-4 defensive end position.
Mike DeVito was expected to contribute from that spot in 2014, but he suffered a torn Achilles in the season opener. Jaye Howard took his spot in the starting lineup but didn’t really produce a whole lot. With DeVito now 30 years old, he can’t be expected to contribute effectively for too much longer, so getting a high-ceiling player like Armstead into the system will be good for continuity.
The 6-foot-8, 290-pound Armstead has been held back by injuries in college and hasn’t put up great numbers, but he has a load of potential and could be a star as a 5-tech in the NFL if he gets his health in order and receives some quality coaching.
