Ranking St. Louis Blues Offseason Moves from Least to Most Impactful

14. Sebastian Wannstrom, RW
23 years old, re-signed as RFA to $600K/$75K two-way contract
Wannstrom, a finesse Swedish forward who has now spent two seasons playing with Blues affiliates in the United States. Since he was a second-round pick in 2010, there’s hope that he’ll eventually develop into an NHL-quality player, but he hasn’t been too impressive thus far in his American career. He did show some signs, though, that he may be starting to take the next step forward. He had five goals and five assists in 37 games with the AHL Chicago Wolves, plus a goal and two assists in six playoff games. He also contributed three goals and two assists over four games with the ECHL’s Kalamazoo Wings. In terms of plus-minus rating, he had the best defensive year of his career, finishing with a plus-3 rating at Chicago.
Wannstrom may be running out of time to develop into a legitimate NHL player, but he still has time to grow into a guy who may be a solid depth player at one point or another.
