13. Brent Regner, D

25 years old, re-signed as RFA to $550K/$125K two-way contract

The Blues were blessed with pretty good health for their defensemen in 2013-14, and they can’t count on that every year. Regner is a decent guy to have around as emergency depth for that reason. He’s never done too much offensively, but he’s done a solid job in the defensive end during his professional career despite not really having any standout skills. With the Blues having signed veteran Chris Butler and already having highly-regarded prospects Jani Hakanpaa and Joel Edmundson at their AHL affiliate, Regner is probably fourth in line for a call-up at best, but if somehow it comes to that point he might be a guy who’s capable of filling in for a few games.
