3. A deep pitching rotation

The St Louis Cardinals dynasty of the 1940s had a deep pitching rotation. In 1942, the Cardinals had 2 20 game winners in Mort Cooper and Johnny Beazley. In 1944, 4 pitchers won 16 or more games (Mort Cooper, Harry Brecheen, Ted Wilks and Max Lanier). Great pitching is always key when a team becomes a dynasty.

The 2014 Cardinals rotation will be deep with starting pitching. Adam Wainwright and Michael Wacha are clearly the #1 and #2 starters. After that, the Cardinals have a plethora of talent that can fill the 3rd through 5th spot in the rotation. Shelby Miller, Joe Kelly, Lance Lynn, and Jaime Garcia can all be great starting pitchers. Jaime Garcia should be good to go for the 2014 season. The Cardinals also have great talent in the bullpen and in the farm system so if injuries occur, they have the depth in the system to withstand it.
