Today, the Missouri Tigers and Illinois Fighting Illini both won their opening games of the season. Here is our recap.
Illinois Wins
The Illinois Fighting Illini jumped out to an early lead against the Southern Illinois Salukis. The Illini just owned Southern Illinois in the first half going into the locker room with a 25-7 lead. The Salukis came out in the 2nd half with some momentum. The Illini and Salukis traded score for the rest of the game but the Illini held on for a 42-34 win.
Nathan Scheelhause went 28 for 36 for 411 yards and 2 touchdowns. Josh Ferguson and Ryan Lankford both had over 100 receiving yards. The Illini will play Cincinnati next Saturday.
Mizzou Rolls.
Just taking care of business. The Missouri Tigers roll over the Murray State Racers 58-14. The Tigers struggled early when they were down 14-13 after the first quarter. The Tigers never wavered and scored 45 unanswered points. James Franklin went 26-38 for 318 yards. Henry Josey in his first action since 2011 rushed 13 times for 113 yards. Matey Mauk entered the game late but only went 2 for 3 for 18 yards. The Tigers will play the Toledo Rockets next week at Faurot Field.
