These 13 players could intrigue the Blues when they pick 20th and 27th in the first round of Friday night’s NHL Draft.

For the first time since 2010, the St. Louis Blues are set to pick twice in the first round of the NHL Draft, possessing their own pick at 20th overall and the Washington Capitals’ selection (which they acquired in exchange for Kevin Shattenkirk) at pick 27.

Of course, it’s always possible that the Blues could trade up and acquire a top-five pick, which would render this whole exercise irrelevant. But for now, we’ll assume that they’ll keep the two picks they have and look at 13 players who could be logical fits with those selections.

One quick thing to keep in mind here: the Blues have rotated between forwards and defensemen with their first pick of the draft dating back to 2013, as they’ve taken d-man Tommy Vannelli, forward Robby Fabbri, defenseman Vince Dunn, and forward Tage Thompson with their past four first selections. With that knowledge in mind, there’s probably a good chance that they’ll seek a defenseman with at least one of their first-round picks.
