After scoring 13 runs each of the last two games, the Cardinals offense was shut down by Cincinatti Reds pitching getting only 4 hits as they lost 8-3 in Cincinnati.

Jake Westbrook struggled again as he gives up 5 earned runs in 5 innings of work. It started in the 1st inning when the Reds got two runs in off of a bases loaded single from Jack Hannaran driving in two runs to take a 2-1 lead. This inning started with a 1 out single from Chris Heisey and a passed ball moved him to second base. Jake Westbrook got in trouble again in the 4th inning when with 2 outs, Jake Westbrook walked Zack Cozart and Devin Mescoraco made him pay with a two out bomb that made it 4-1. The Reds would add some insurance runs but the 4 was all they needed for a win.

Offensively, the Cardinals got only 4 hits total and no one had a multiple hit game. Rob Johnson and Matt Carpenter both had RBIs but didn’t record a hit. Carlos Beltran was the only Cardinal with a hit and an RBI. Tony Cingrani gave up the 3 earned runs and 4 hits. The bullpen shut down the Cardinals after that pitch a perfect 7th, 8th, and 9th to win the game.

The Cardinals will try to win the rubber match and win only their 3rd game in this 11 game road trip tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is at 12:15 central.
