The All Star Break is here and the Cardinals are in first place in the NL Central, but it’s everything going great for the Cardinals? Let’s check out the 1st half grades.

Hitting:

The St. Louis Cardinals are the best hitting team in the National League as far as average is concerned. They are also number 1 in On Base percentage and in OPS. The Cardinals are second in slugging percentage as well. The biggest concern with the Cardinals right now is a lack of home runs. Through 93 games, the Cardinals are ranked 11th out of 15 National League teams in number of home runs. While the Cardinals are number 1 in hits and number 4 in the National League in doubles, the lack of triples (t-12 in NL) and home runs might be an issue in the second half. Sometimes baseball teams go on cold hitting streaks and if the Cardinals can’t get run producing hits, they will fall fast down the NL Central standings.
