Jayson Tatum is the latest St. Louis area native to make it to the NBA.

St. Louisan Jayson Tatum fulfilled the prophecy that had been cast out for him so many years ago on Thursday night, being selected by the Boston Celtics with the third overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. Tatum has the potential to make an immediate major impact on a Celtics team that already got to the Easter Conference Finals this spring and seems to be the greatest threat to the Cleveland Cavaliers in that conference for the near future.

Tatum, who attended Chaminade College Prep in St. Louis, claimed to be considering Saint Louis University throughout the duration of his recruiting process, though he ultimately chose to attend Duke for his singular collegiate season. In 29 games for the Blue Devils this year, the 6-foot-8, 205-pounder averaged 16.8 points, 2.1 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game.

Tatum joins a steadily growing group of St. Louisans in the NBA that also includes Bradley Beal, David Lee, Patrick McCaw, and Ben McLemore.
