RD9. Evan Kruczynski, LHP, East Carolina

With their ninth-round pick, the Cardinals took a flyer on Evan Kruczynski, a big lefty (6-foot-5, 215 pounds) who established his stock during a dominant junior season where he posted a 2.01 ERA with 95 strikeouts and 27 walks over 116 2/3 innings. After going undrafted, Kruczynski returned for his senior season and struggled a bit in 2017, posting a 4.47 ERA with 48 strikeouts and seven walks in 56 1/3 innings. Despite the fact that his fastball tops out in the low 90s, the Cardinals were apparently intrigued enough by his polished command and impressive off-the-field reputation to take a no-risk chance on him late on the second day.
