RD5. Zach Kirtley, 2B, St. Mary’s

If college shortstops are the safest bets in the MLB Draft, college second basemen are some of the riskiest, as they’re rarely able to handle a more difficult position in the pros and are usually restricted to second or a corner outfield spot. Kirtley is no exception, as there are questions about his viability as a defender at the professional level. Fortunately, he’s an intriguing hitter with doubles power and exceptional plate discipline (he posted a .433 OBP this season). He might not be the highest-ceiling player in the world, but he’s got a chance to end up as a solid bench piece.
