Today we take a look at some of the most memorable Cardinals ever to wear numbers in the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

This summer at Arch Authority, we’ll be counting down the best players to wear each jersey number in St. Louis Cardinals history. With Cardinals players having worn numbers on their backs since 1932, there are plenty of greats to choose from, and the exercise should allow us to evoke memories of some of the more under-appreciated players in Redbirds history.

We’ll generally be dividing these lists up into groups of 10, but since there have been so few Redbirds with super-high jersey numbers, we start today with numbers 99 to 70. Despite the fact that the Cardinals have so many retired numbers, they’ve generally been able to avoid giving out defensive lineman and wide receiver numbers, with only six players in club history wearing numbers in the 70s, 80s, or 90s. Most of the players here have actually had rather memorable careers in St. Louis, though, so without further ado let’s look at the best high-numbered players in Cardinals history.
