Profiling candidates for the St. Louis Blues’ remaining coaching vacancies
Michel Therrien
Yeo has longstanding ties to Therrien, having worked for him as an assistant with the AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins from 2003-05, then moving up with him to the NHL when Therrien was hired as Pittsburgh’s head coach in ’05. The Montreal native has quite a bit of head coaching experience at the NHL level, having coached the Canadiens from 2000-03 and again from 2012-17 in addition to his stint in Pittsburgh from 2005-09, so he’d certainly bring an experienced voice to the Blues’ bench.
However, he’s also the oldest guy on this list and has spent the most time as an NHL head coach, making it somewhat unlikely that he’d agree to be an assistant on the Blues’ staff. For what it’s worth, he’s viewed as a coach who’s difficult for players to deal with, and while sometimes it’s nice to have a guy like that on a staff, the Blues seem to be avoiding those types of coaches with the hirings they’ve made over the past year.
