Craig Berube

By all accounts, Berube appears to be the favorite for the top assistant job, and that’s a good thing, because he showed how great of a teacher he is as the coach of the Chicago Wolves, the Blues’ AHL affiliate, in 2016-17. In addition to leading the Wolves into the second round of the AHL playoffs for the first time since 2013-14, Berube and his staff coached up Ivan Barbashev, Jordan Schmaltz, and Wade Megan in advance of their NHL debuts, got career-best results out of minor-league journeymen Brad Hunt and Kenny Agostino, and finally helped turn Magnus Paajarvi into a top-nine NHL forward.

The 51-year-old Berube, who was the head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers from 2013-15, would allow for the most seamless transition, as he’s already coached quite a few players who are expected to fit into the Blues’ plans next season. With that said, his ties to Yeo aren’t exceptionally strong, as their only previous experience working together came this past season, when Yeo was an assistant and then head coach at the NHL level as Berube coached in the AHL.
