The Russian report regarding Vladimir Tarasenko needing surgery this offseason was apparently #FakeNews.

Reports out of Russia on Monday afternoon indicated that St. Louis Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko would need surgery for an undisclosed injury this offseason. According to Oleg Znarok, the coach of the Russian team for the IIHF World Championships, Tarasenko’s agent had told him that the star forward would need surgery and therefore wouldn’t be able to suit up for Team Russia.

While Tarasenko still won’t be playing for the Russian team in the World Championships, he apparently won’t have to spend his offseason recovering from surgery. Blues GM Doug Armstrong indicated in his season wrap-up press conference on Tuesday morning that Tarasenko is dealing with some bumps and bruises following the conclusion of the season but will not be having surgery of any variety.

That aligns more closely with what Tarasenko’s North America-based agent, Mike Liut, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch‘s Jeremy Rutherford on Monday. Liut didn’t outright deny that Tarasenko would be having surgery, but he stressed that there wouldn’t be a determination made until Tarasenko underwent his season-ending medical exam later in the week.

Armstrong said that with the exception of winger Robby Fabbri, who’s expected to be back for training camp after suffering a torn ACL in February, the Blues’ roster should be at 100 percent health within six weeks. Winger Nail Yakupov is currently recovering from surgery, while Alexander Steen will continue to recover from a broken foot that he suffered in the first round of the playoffs.
