Donavin Newsom, LB – San Francisco 49ers

Newsom’s production at Mizzou (165 tackles over four seasons) may not have been enough to get him noticed, but his off-the-charts athleticism could allow him to make a serious run at a roster spot in the NFL. The 6-foot-1, 237-pounder ran a 4.50 40-yard dash at Mizzou’s pro day, and his speed could make him a major weapon on the 49ers’ kickoff and punt teams if he can show that he’s a competent enough player from scrimmage to suit up for San Francisco on game days.

While the 49ers drafted Reuben Foster in the first round of this year’s draft, their depth as a whole is rather slim at the linebacker position, and if Newsom has a solid training camp, it’s certainly possible that he could push for a spot on their 53-man roster.
