Michael Porter Sr. will return to the University of Missouri.

For Missouri Tigers fans who want to see the top recruit in the country, Michael Porter Jr., attend the school this fall, the great news keeps on coming. After Porter Jr. was officially released from his national letter of intent by the Washington Huskies earlier Thursday, his father, Michael Sr., agreed in principle to become a part of Cuonzo Martin’s coaching staff at Mizzou. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch‘s Dave Matter reported the news first.

Porter Sr. subtly revealed his decision to return to Missouri by announcing the change of his Twitter profile picture, and if fans had any suspicion that Porter had chosen to coach at Auburn or LSU, his daughter Cierra–a member of the Mizzou women’s team–quickly made his destination abundantly clear:

Porter Sr. was fired along with his boss (and his son’s godfather), head coach Lorenzo Romar, last week at Washington, triggering Porter Jr.’s decision to get out of his NLI. There had been speculation since the day that he was fired that he would end up at Mizzou, but nothing official had come down.

This will be Porter’s second position on a Division I men’s staff. Prior to spending one season at Washington, Porter spent six seasons on the Mizzou women’s basketball staff, serving as director of basketball operations for three and as an assistant coach for another three.

Meanwhile, USA TODAY’s Jason Jordan wrote Wednesday that Porter Jr. wouldn’t automatically choose to attend the school that his father ended up coaching at. The prized recruit did acknowledge, however, that it would be a unique experience to be able to create that type of familial bond.
