After spending nearly a week in the AHL, Ivan Barbashev has returned to the St. Louis Blues.

With his recovery from a minor upper-body injury apparently complete, forward Ivan Barbashev was recalled by the St. Louis Blues on Monday afternoon.

Prior to the Blues’ five-day break last week, the 21-year-old forward had played in the team’s previous 12 games. He was sent down to the AHL Chicago Wolves last Tuesday to stay active (and save the NHL club some salary cap space) during the break, but he suffered an injury in the Wolves’ Wednesday win over the Cleveland Monsters.

Barbashev was sidelined for the Blues’ Sunday loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, and he was replaced by Dmitrij Jaskin in the lineup. So as not to unnecessarily spend money toward the salary cap, the Blues kept Barbashev in the AHL and had him skate with the Wolves over the weekend.

He’s apparently returned to health now, though, and he may be needed for Tuesday night’s game against the Edmonton Oilers. Ryan Reaves‘ status is uncertain after he blocked a shot off his foot against Chicago, and either Jaskin or Nail Yakupov may need to take over the right wing spot on the fourth line. If Jaskin were to take over the spot, that would create a spot for Barbashev to take over the left wing spot on the third line once again.

In 12 NHL games this season, Barbashev has two goals and an assist with a plus-3 rating.
