St. Louis Cardinals Void RHP Kendry Flores’s Contract
A pitcher who was thought to be a potential contributor to the Cardinals’ big-league club this year is no longer in the organization.
Two days after MLB.com’s Jenifer Langosch reported that he was sent out for an MRI on his pitching shoulder, righthander Kendry Flores is no longer a member of the St. Louis Cardinals organization. As the St. Louis Post-Dispatch‘s Derrick Goold reported Thursday, the Cardinals have voided Flores’s contract after he failed their physical.
The 25-year-old Flores, who was signed to a minor-league deal in November, was thought of as a pitcher who could contribute to the Cardinals’ major-league club this season. He’s pitched in eight games (two starts) for the Miami Marlins over the past two seasons, posting a collective 4.02 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 15 2/3 innings. While he’s mostly worked as a reliever at the MLB level, the Cardinals considered him to be a potential depth starter.
While he’s reaching the point where his prospect status was just about dried up, Flores did in fact rank among the Cardinals’ top 30 prospects on MLB Pipeline’s most recent list. Pipeline rated Flores as the 29th-best prospect (and the 16th-best pitching prospect) in the Cardinals organization.

The Cardinals added righthander Corey Baker to major-league camp on Thursday to help offset the recent losses of Flores, lefty Corey Littrell (who was popped 50 games for a drug suspension), and righthander Alex Reyes.
