5 Great Things About the St. Louis Blues’ Victory in the Winter Classic

4. Jay Bouwmeester’s Moment of Offensive Brilliance
While Jay Bouwmeester was once a serious threat as an offensive defenseman, collecting 37 or more points each season from 2005-09, he’s tailed off significantly in that area over the past several years. Bouwmeester looked like his old self on Monday, though, skating behind the Blackhawks’ net from center ice and threading a spectacular pass to Patrik Berglund for the Blues’ first goal.
See for yourself:
With the possible exception of a ridiculous cross-ice pass from Vladimir Tarasenko to Alex Pietrangelo that went for a goal earlier this month, Bouwmeester’s pass might be the greatest assist from a Blues player this season. Maybe Monday’s game will be the confidence booster that Bouwmeester needs to start becoming an offensive difference maker again.
