Let’s lay out some expectations for an improved 2017 on the St. Louis sports scene.

Simply put, 2016 was a rough year for sports fans in St. Louis. After things started on a rough note as the Rams departed for Los Angeles in early January, they didn’t really get much better. While the Blues’ first trip to the Western Conference Finals since 2001 was a major positive, there weren’t many other good things to speak of. The Cardinals missed the playoffs for the first time since 2010, Mizzou football finished under .500 for the second straight season, Mizzou basketball continued to be a total trainwreck, and SLU basketball reacted to a terrible 2015-16 season with a coaching change, though a transition season for Travis Ford has been as underwhelming as anticipated.

Perhaps 2017 could bring more favorable fortunes to the teams that St. Louisans root for, though. The Blues’ championship window still looks to be open, even if it’s being pushed downward rather than up. If anything, the Cardinals should have an easier time competing with the Cubs in 2017 as the former lovable losers face the possibility of a World Series hangover. And perhaps most significantly, the community could welcome a new franchise as the MLS explores the possibility of placing an expansion team in St. Louis.

In an effort to be optimistic, we’ve laid out 10 wishes for St. Louis sports in 2017. Perhaps this year won’t be everything we’ve dreamed of, but hey–at least we’re not going to lose our NFL team this year.

Let’s get started with a rather simple request for the Mizzou football program:
