Bill Dewitt III and Tom Stillman Drop the Puck Together After the Rams’ Departure

On January 12, NFL owners voted to allow the St. Louis Rams to relocate to Los Angeles for the 2016 season. With sports fans in St. Louis devastated, the Blues scheduled a special ceremony to pay tribute to the city’s great history as a sports community. Just before the game was about to get underway, PA announcer Tom Calhoun introduced Blues managing partner Tom Stallman and Cardinals president Bill Dewitt III, who emerged from behind the Blues’ bench, with Stillman wearing a Cardinals jacket and Dewitt wearing a Blues pullover.

As the puck was dropped, fans in the crowd broke out into a loud “Kroenke sucks” chant in reference to Rams owner Stan Kroenke, who had released a relocation proposal that repeatedly insulted the city of St. Louis just days before the move. In a time of pain for the community, it was a great sign of unity, and perhaps the best silent message of commitment to their city that any owners have ever displayed.
