Cardinals fans were included on FanSided’s Fandom 250, but they ranked substantially lower than Cubs fans.

FanSided’s Fandom 250, a comprehensive list that ranks fan bases of sports teams, brands, musicians, political figures, and more, was released on Tuesday morning. Since the St. Louis Cardinals’ fan base is often talked about as one of the best in baseball–often to the point of causing the city to be labeled a “baseball town”, which has even created some serious jealously among certain NFL teams–the Cardinals are included on the list.

While the Cardinals had one of the most highly-ranked baseball fanbases on the list, the ranking had to be at least a little bit of a disappointment to the “Best Fans in Baseball”, as the fan base came in at 111th on the list. The Boston Red Sox (29), New York Yankees (25), and–to the dismay of many Cardinals fans–the Chicago Cubs (1) were the three baseball fan bases ranked higher on the list.

Taking a “glass half full” approach, the Cardinals did manage to outrank other fan bases such as those of the San Francisco Giants, Kansas City Royals, Baltimore Orioles, and New York Mets. Interestingly, three of the clubs who finished in the top 10 in attendance during 2016–the Toronto Blue Jays (3), Los Angeles Angels (7), and Texas Rangers (10)–didn’t make the cut.
