Carte’are Gordon is perhaps the biggest SLU commit since Larry Hughes.

In just his seventh month as the Saint Louis Billikens‘ head coach, Travis Ford scored yet another major recruiting victory–and by far his biggest so far–on Wednesday morning, as 6-foot-8, 257-pound power forward Carte’Are Gordon of Webster Groves High School in St. Louis announced that he’ll be attending SLU in 2017.

Gordon is ranked as a five-star prospect by ESPN and is considered the best player in the state and region, as well as the ninth-best player in the country. Rivals also ranks him as a five-star prospect and ranks him as the number 16 player in his recruiting class. Gordon had also been considering Kansas and Missouri.

Gordon is the second major prospect to commit to SLU in as many days, as four-star forward recruit Hasahn French of Commonwealth Academy in Massachusetts committed on Tuesday.

More from Arch Authority

Gordon is the third high school recruit that Ford has nabbed for the class of 2017, and all of them are at least four-star recruits. Guard Jordan Goodwin of Althoff Catholic High School in Belleville, Illinois committed to the Billikens in August. Goodwin is ranked as a four-star recruit and the 57th-best player in his class by ESPN.

With the additions of Gordon and Goodwin for next year, it’s possible that next year’s Billikens team will have as much local flavor as any SLU squad has had in a long while. SLU already has freshman forward Zeke Moore and junior center Austin Gillman, and it’s possible that walk-on guard Aaron Hines could also return for a fifth year of eligibility.

Gordon is certainly the Billikens’ most high-profile recruiting addition since Larry Hughes, who starred at SLU in 1997-98 before going on to play 13 seasons in the NBA.
