Johnathon Johnson

In a bit of an upset, Johnson managed to win a starting receiver job for Week 1 despite missing all of his true freshman season with an injury and being overlooked for much of the offseason. With 2015 starter Nate Brown sidelined for the start of the season, there was an open spot in the Tigers’ lineup, but even so, the fact that Johnson currently appears to have the edge over Chris Black, a senior graduate transfer from Alabama, is something that shouldn’t go unnoticed.

Johnson, a 5-foot-10, 185-pounder, is widely considered to be one of the fastest players on Mizzou’s team, and he’s set to serve as the Tigers’ punt returner. Johnson could provide the Mizzou offense with the type of explosiveness that it hasn’t had since Marcus Murphy’s eligibility expired following the 2014 season.
