The Missouri Tigers will have 12 new starters as they kick off their season at West Virginia on Saturday. Which of those players provide the most intrigue?

It’s safe to say that expectations aren’t sky-high for the Missouri Tigers football team in 2016. After an eventful past 12 months which have seen the program unexpectedly have to dismiss its starting quarterback, be ravaged by a controversy over racial inequality at the university, deal with a coaching change this offseason, and then have to fight through the untimely losses of some key starters this summer, Mizzou is currently running on fumes and is going to need some good breaks to compete at a high level this season.

The Tigers go into Saturday’s season opener at West Virginia expected to utilize new starters at 12 of the 22 positions, plus a new kicker and two new returners. It will definitely be a different team than the one that took the field in 2015. That certainly could be a good thing, considering that last year’s Tigers went 5-7 and often lacked life, but it will be up to this team to shape its own identity with a new coaching staff and a vast array of new contributors.

Obviously there’s always intrigue with the unknown, but we highlighted five new starters for the Tigers who should be especially exciting to watch on Saturday:
