The St. Louis Blues have added some extra forward depth, bringing back forward Magnus Paajarvi on a one-year, one-way contract worth $700,000.

The St. Louis Blues announced on Tuesday morning that they’ve agreed to a one-year contract with forward Magnus Paajarvi. Via the St. Louis Post-Dispatch‘s Jeremy Rutherford, it’s a one-way deal worth $700,000.

While Paajarvi wasn’t exceptionally productive in 2015-16, collecting just three goals and six assists in 48 games, he arguably had his best season to date during his three-year run with the Blues. After being recalled from the AHL in early November, Paajarvi provided quality energy and showcased the best mix of speed and skill that he’s shown since joining the organization. Paajarvi also filled in for Scottie Upshall for three games in the Western Conference Finals, collecting an assist while providing a nice boost on the fourth line.

Though Paajarvi’s getting a one-way deal, he’ll probably have to battle for a roster spot once again when training camp comes around. Assuming that the Blues bring back Vladimir Sobotka, they’ll have 15 obvious candidates for 14 NHL forward spots, and that’s with the assumption that they don’t add any more NHL-caliber forwards through the rest of the offseason. As it stands now, Paajarvi will likely be fighting with Ty Rattie for a roster spot during camp.
