The St. Louis Cardinals have one of baseball’s best offenses during 2016, but they’ve lagged behind the Cubs and Pirates in the standings for much of the year. How will that affect their All-Star representation?

While the St. Louis Cardinals have 103 home runs (tied for best in the NL), a team OPS of .786 (good for second in the league), and a respectable enough 40-36 record, they haven’t exactly been at the forefront of MLB discussion during 2016 as they’ve gotten off to a slower-than-expected start. Though they’re now in second place in the NL Central and just a half game out of a Wild Card spot, the Cardinals were stuck in third place for much of the first two months and have consistently struggled when they’ve faced competitive opponents. With this disparity in mind, what kind of position are the Cardinals’ star players in when it comes to earning a spot in next month’s MLB All-Star Game?

Over the following slides, we’ll look at nine Cardinals players who have some semblance of a chance at making the All-Star Game and decide exactly how good those chances are. Whether they’re on the good or bad side of luck in regards to their competition for a spot, we’ll also judge how worthy they really are of being on the roster.

We’ll get things kicked off with Yadier Molina, the only Cardinals player who appears to have a chance of starting in next month’s Midsummer Classic:
