The St. Louis Blues will attempt to advance to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2000-01 as they have an opportunity to eliminate the Dallas Stars on Monday.

In what’s starting to become a regular occurrence, the St. Louis Blues play their most important game in recent franchise history on Monday evening as they host the Dallas Stars at Scottrade Center. The Blues, up 3-2 in a second-round series with the Central Division champion Stars, have an opportunity to eliminate the opposition and advance to the Conference Finals for the first time in 15 years. It’s been a long drought for the Blues, who last participated in the Western Conference Finals when they lost a 4-1 series to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche in 2000-01, and a win on Monday night would be all the rage in St. Louis, especially for a sports community that had been put down earlier this year by the loss of the Rams.

The Blues, who have won every game in which they’ve scored more than two goals during this series, will need to get the offense going again on Monday night. They definitely played their most efficient offensive game on Saturday, collecting four goals on a series-low 22 shots, and if they could manage to be that accurate on Monday, it’d definitely be desirable. With that said, the Blues would definitely prefer to get the puck on the net consistently and deliver a performance like they did in Game 3, when they scored six goals while getting 39 shots off. Based on the Blues’ previous performances during this series, the general keys to success seem to be keeping the puck out of their own zone and keeping the pressure off of Brian Elliott, delivering consistency with their offensive attack, and dominating the finesse Stars squad from a physical standpoint. If the Blues can do all of those things on Monday, they should have a great shot on their home ice, where they’re 3-3 (with two overtime losses) this postseason.
