Jake Allen

12 games (and counting) missed since January 9 (knee injury)

Though he’s arguably been the Blues’ most important player throughout 2015-16, collecting five shutouts (which still ranks second-best in the league, despite the fact that he’s missed a month) and allowing an average of just 2.17 goals per 60 minutes, the Blues have done a spectacular job of limiting the damage in Jake Allen’s absence.

Since Allen went down, Brian Elliott has gone on one of his trademark hot streaks, accumulating a minuscule 1.75 GAA and .946 save percentage with a 7-3-3 record and a shutout in 13 games. The job still seems to be be Allen’s upon his return, but the longer that Allen takes to recover, the more time Elliott will have to showcase his dominance.

Until Allen comes back–which would seem to be sooner than later, seeing as he’s resumed skating and doing limited work in practice–the biggest concern is the possibility of Elliott going down. In that event, the Blues would be forced to turn to current backup Pheonix Copley, who has yet to play in an NHL game, or AHL netminder Jordan Binnington, who made his NHL debut while playing 12 minutes in relief of Elliott last month.
