Kevin Shattenkirk

10 games missed from October 15-November 4 (lower-body injury)

Surprisingly, the Blues were able to thrive in Shattenkirk’s absence, and considering that he was still on the mend from a core injury that disrupted his All-Star 2014-15 campaign, perhaps it was a blessing in disguise that Shattenkirk suffered a lower-body injury early this season and was able to take all the time he needed to get back to 100 percent. The Blues went 7-2-1 as he recovered, and rookie Colton Parayko took advantage of the increased minutes to collect two goals, five assists, and a plus-4 rating over that period.

The Blues’ patience with Shattenkirk–as well as his willingness to wait until he was completely ready–has paid dividends, as he’s contributed nine goals and 17 assists in 43 games since returning. He needs to become a bit more responsible in his own zone–he has a team-worst minus-11 rating this year, though much of that can be attributed to him being paired with the team’s worst defenseman on many nights–but Shattenkirk’s doing everything that the Blues could ask for as a puck facilitator, and he’ll be a major asset as they head towards the playoffs.
