Scoring

The Blues aren’t woeful in the scoring department, but they’re in the bottom half of the league in goals scored.

The Blues skate into the All-Star break with 126 goals, good enough for 18th in the league. Compare that to the league leading Dallas Stars, who have buried 160 goals, and it’s obvious that there is a large discrepancy. The telling thing is that the Blues have actually played the second-most games in the league at this point with 52. The Blues also lack a legitimate scoring threat beyond Vladimir Tarasenko, who is tied for third in the NHL with 25 goals. Alex Steen is currently second on the team with 15 goals, followed by David Backes with 12, and Robby Fabbri with 11. That is a huge drop off after Tarasenko. It’s not wrong to wonder if the pressure on Tarasenko to do most of the heavy lifting will eventually catch up to him.
