30-year old Becky Sauerbrunn shares the armband with Carli Lloyd.

D Becky Sauerbrunn, along with Lloyd, takes over the captainship from the retired Abby Wambach and the injured Christie Rampone. Sauerbrunn has been a major part of both the US Women’s National Team and FC Kansas City; FC Kansas City is a side in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) a three-year old league that is currently the top division in American women’s soccer. Sauerbrunn has won two championships with FC Kansas City, as well as winning NWSL Defender of the Year in every year of the league’s existence. The St. Louis native has been a staple in the rocky women’s professional scene since 2005, spending time in four different leagues in the United States alone, as well as spending a season in Norway.

While she has yet to score a goal in 96 caps for the national team, Sauerbrunn was a major factor in the 2015 Women’s World Cup; she played all 630 minutes for the US in the tournament, one of five players to do so. She was also on the squads that finished second in 2011 and won gold in London during the 2012 Olympics.
