12. Kendall Langford

It’s not as if Langford was a horrible disappointment during his three-year stint in St. Louis. On the contrary, it would have been nice to have Langford as the Rams’ third defensive tackle behind Aaron Donald and Michael Brockers this year, rather than erratic free agent pickup Nick Fairley. But it would be asinine to say that the Rams’ decision to give Langford a four-year, $22 million-dollar contract with $6 million guaranteed and a $4 million-dollar signing bonus was a wise one.

Langford, who was converted into a 3-technique defensive tackle in St. Louis after spending the first four seasons of his NFL career as a 3-4 defensive end in Miami, started 36 games during his time with the Rams, playing in another 12 after being benched for Donald in Week 5 of the 2014 season. He had an above-average 2013 season, after he had adjusted t0 his new position and still had a starting job. During that campaign, he collected 49 tackles and five sacks. But during his other 32 games as a Ram, Langford had just 52 tackles and three sacks.

Factoring in that the Rams saved some money on him by releasing him after the 2014 season, Langford–who was signed to be an effective interior pass-rusher in the team’s attacking 4-3 defense–made $2 million per sack as a Ram.
