St. Louis Rams vs. San Francisco 49ers: Staff Predictions

twitterfacebookreddit

The St. Louis Rams look to continue their undefeated streak against NFC West teams on Sunday, as they’ll match up against the last-place San Francisco 49ers. The Rams have the chance to go above .500 at the latest point in the season since 2006, so it will definitely be a big test for a team that’s looking to make their first playoff appearance since 2004. The surging Rams definitely have the edge with a shutdown defense and perhaps the league’s best emerging young player in running back Todd Gurley, but it will be interesting to see if they can hold up against an inferior opponent.

As is weekly tradition here, our staff members took a guess at how the divisional matchup will turn out on Sunday:

Patrick Karraker (3-3): “The Rams have typically struggled against teams they’re supposed to beat, but two factors–their recent improvement as a collective unit, and the 49ers’ outright awfulness–should propel them to a victory on Sunday. Look for continued productivity from Todd Gurley on Sunday, while the Rams’ defense should succeed against a severely depleted 49ers running attack and an already mediocre passing game.”

42. 35. 51. Final. 10

Sammy Stava (2-2): “I think Rams win this one. The 49ers are really bad, and Todd Gurley’s previous performances are giving the Rams a lot of momentum. That continues on Sunday. “

42. 21. 51. Final. 10

Paul Lamb (3-3): “The Niners continue to be in disarray. Colin Kaepernick is clearly still hurting from the coaching switch, and he isn’t the same QB he used to be. On the other hand, there was a nice team win a week ago from the Rams. Defensively, they were tough and can capitalize off 49ers turnovers this week to create offensive opportunities.”

51. Final. 10. 42. 28
