St Louis Rams to Sign Wide Receiver Nick Toon
By Nic Moody
The Rams are strengthening their receiving core.
According to multiple reports, the St Louis Rams are signing former New Orleans Saints receiver Nick Toon to a contract. The Rams worked out six receivers before the game Sunday against Pittsburgh. Toon was included in that list of wide outs, and it appears he impressed enough to make the roster.
Nick Toon played receiver for the Wisconsin Badgers and was drafted in the fourth round of the 2012 draft by the New Orleans Saints. At 6’4, 218 lbs, Toon is known as a possession receiver. This of course meaning he runs solid routes, and rarely drops the ball. He has modest speed for a wide receiver, running a 4.43 40 yard dash in the draft. Toon became Drew Brees‘ favorite target when tight end Jimmy Graham went down with a shoulder injury last season.

Don’t expect Toon to come in and change a lot, but it might be a nice change of pace to have a bigger target to throw to who can actually hold onto the ball. After the drops last week by Kendricks, Cook, and Britt, Fisher might just be trying to make a point to his young team. This also raises concern for wide receiver Brian Quick, who sources say is behind on his conditioning, but there could be a bigger problem lurking. There is no news on who the Rams are dropping to make room for Toon on the roster, but it will likely be another wide out.
Toon played all four years at Wisconsin, and finished his college career with 170 catches, 2,447 yards, and 18 touchdowns. How fast can Nick Foles and Toon become friends?
