Carlos Martinez exits early with right shoulder tightness, will be re-evaluated tomorrow

The Cardinals starting rotation may have just taken a big hit heading towards the postseason. Carlos Martinez‘s outing lasted only seven pitches tonight against the Brewers. He exited the game in the Top of the 1st inning with the trainer looking disappointed with his glove over his head, which obviously isn’t a promising sign. Tyler Lyons took the mound in replace of Martinez.
The Cardinals have officially announced that Martinez left the game with right shoulder tightness and he will be re-evaluated tomorrow:
St. Louis, who has already dealt with their fair share of injuries this season (Adam Wainwright, Matt Holliday, Matt Adams, Randal Grichuk, Yadier Molina, and others) will have to wait and see on Martinez’s latest injury.

have all the momentum going forward into October.
However, the severity of Martinez’s injury is unknown at least until tomorrow. While this injury news could be a very big blow, the Cardinals will still have four reliable starting pitchers heading into the playoffs with John Lackey, Michael Wacha, Jaime Garcia, and Lance Lynn.
If Martinez’s inury is the worst case scenario, maybe the need for Adam Wainwright returning to the playoffs in a bullpen role increases. And, St. Louis just keeps on winning with all these injuries, still with the MLB’s best record at 97-56. The theme of “Next Man Up” this season will have to continue for the Cardinals.
