ESPN Releases Huge Information About Spygate
By Nic Moody
Roger Goodell’s hole just keeps getting deeper and deeper
Most St Louis Rams fans aren’t on good terms with the Patriots. Some just hate them because they win, some people just don’t like Tom Brady, but most people are upset about Super Bowl 36, where the Patriots defeated defeated the Rams 20-17. It wasn’t just the loss that bothered the fans, however, it was the huge story that would be known as “spygate” that would infuriate fans the most. It was released that the Patriots had taped practice of the Rams before the Super Bowl, and also had gotten team signals on record.

There was an investigation, the NFL shook most rumors, and the Patriots got away with it. (for the most part, other than a fine) Most Fans remember it, but honestly haven’t given too much thought to the incident since 2008.
Until Now. This Morning, ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” published an investigation that took the Patriots “cheater” status to a whole new level. The investigation entailed that the Patriots had an entire library of other teams practices, including over 40 films from 2000-2008 from multiple teams practices. They also discovered a library of team signals as well.
Former Rams coach Mike Martz put the icing on the cake when he revealed that Roger Goodell personally called him and asked him to give a statement that he was pleased with how the NFL handled the “spygate” investigation. Here is a statement he gave on the show: (via STL Today)
"“He (Goodell) told me, ‘The league doesn’t need this. We’re asking you to come out with a couple lines exonerating us and saying we did our due diligence,'”"
To make matters even worse, apparently when Mike Martz viewed the statement he sent in, he didn’t recognize some of the wording as his own.
"“It shocked me, It appears embellished quite a bit — some lines I know I didn’t write. Who changed it? I don’t know.”"
Martz also added;
"“It was hard to swallow because I always felt something happened but I didn’t know what it was and I couldn’t prove it anyway, even to this day, I think something happened.”"
This could potentially be a huge blow to the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell, who is known for handling situations poorly. It could also be a huge blow to the Patriots as well, now that there is even more evidence about their past antics.
Roger Goodell suspended Tom Brady because of the terrible way he handled spygate, let’s be honest. Fully expect this story to expand over the next few weeks, as Goodell will have to dig himself out of another hole.
