St. Louis Cardinals: Which Players Will Join the Roster in September?

After a prolonged period of struggle and a demotion, Harris came back up to the Cardinals in early July and had three perfect one-inning appearances before going on the disabled list with a groin injury on July 11. While he was gone, though, Sam Tuivailala emerged in the Cardinals’ bullpen, and then the team traded for Steve Cishek. Thus, there was no room for Harris upon his return, and he was optioned to Memphis on July 27.
Since returning to Memphis, Harris has a 2.70 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP over 15 appearances, so he’s likely to return to St. Louis as an extra bullpen option at the end of Memphis’s season. He probably doesn’t have a chance of making the Cardinals’ postseason roster, but he’ll provide some nice depth and look to build his reputation as he pushes for a full-time big-league spot next season.
