Mizzou Women’s Volleyball Wins Tiger Invitational
The Mizzou Women’s volleyball team started off the season by winning the Tiger Invitational. The tournament included the North Texas Mean Green, North Dakota State Bison, and Winthrop Eagles. The tournament provided three easy wins for the Tigers.
In the first match on Friday, the Tigers faced the North Dakota State Bison. The Bison’s football prowess did not carry over into women’s volleyball, as the Tigers pulled out a win 22-25, 25-16, 25-18, 18-25, 15-9. Carly Kan was the star for Mizzou; the Hawaii junior tallied 21 of the Tigers’ 58 kills and .432 hitting on her way to a double-double. Freshman Alyssa Munlyn from Sewanee, GA notched 10 kills and senior Regan Pelletier from Nixa, MO pitched in another 12 kills. The sophomore pairing of Ali Kreklow and Courtney Eckenrode were solid in the back, combining for 49 assists over the five game match.
Mizzou finished the invitational with a doubleheader on Saturday, which proved far less of a challenge than NDSU. The first match of the doubleheader was a 25-21, 25-20, 25-23 sweep of the Winthrop Eagles. The Tigers hit well as a team, hitting a .343 average and putting 42 kills away; Carly Kan contributed 14 of them. Once again, the Kreklow-Eckenrode pairing excelled in the back, setting up their teammates 33 times over the course of the match.

The nightcap pit the Tigers against the North Texas Mean Green. Carly Kan was once again the star, putting in 15 kills and 10 digs to close the tournament with a 25-21, 25-15, 25-17 win. The sophomore grouping of Kreklow and Eckenrode once again helped out their teammates by dishing out 35 total assists over the course of the match. Eckenrode also aced twice, and Kreklow put in six digs. Regan Peltier put in a quietly stellar game, notching nine kills and an ace in the win.
Judging by the first three matches of the season, Carly Kan will be the key for the Tigers this season. The junior from Honolulu notched an impressive 50 kills over the three matches. The sophomore duo of Kreklow and Eckenrode will also be crucial in the assist column, and Peltier should continue to put in stellar nights. If those players continue on this run of form, the Tigers should have a great season.
Their next match is against Florida Gulf Coast on September 4.
