The St Louis Cardinals are basically unstoppable

The St Louis Cardinals traveled to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks in a four game series, which would end with St Louis sweeping to make their win count at five games in a row.

The Cardinals still have the best record in the league this year, and are favourites to take the world series title. They are on pace to win over 100 games, and after the series against Arizona, it’s obvious why. The Cardinals can find every way to win possible. They dig in the nooks and crannies of every corner and crawl space, looking for wins even in places you wouldn’t normally find them.

For Example, the first game against the Diamondbacks ended with St Louis winning 5-3, but the Diamondbacks had fourteen hits compared to the Cardinals nine. That’s an impressive stat. It’s hard enough to win games when you get out-hit, but getting out-hit by five hits? And to further that, only giving up three runs on those fourteen hits is downright impressive.

The Second game saw a blowout. St Louis won 9-1 with three Cardinals players getting multiple runs batted in. Garcia pitched wonderfully for six innings, then the bullpen cleaned up, only allowing one run all night.

The Third game again would have the Diamondbacks out hitting the Cardinals. Only by one hit this time though. (seven to six) Again, it came down to what the teams did with those hits. The Cardinals squeezed three runs out of small opportunities, and Arizona only could get one. Add another win for John Lackey.

The Series Finale would mark another win for All Star pitcher Carlos Martinez. The Cardinals would complete the sweep by winning 5-3, behind a pair of Brandon Moss RBI’s.

The wonderful thing about the Cardinals is that as mentioned before, they find wins in situations other teams wouldn’t. While other teams rely on star players for runs and hits, the Cardinals can get anyone on the roster to come through. Look at the RBI count for the series against the Diamondbacks:

RBI Count For Series Against Arizona

Yadier Molina: 4

Jason Heyward: 2

Stephen Piscotty: 2

Tommy Pham: 1

Jhonny Peralta: 2

Mark Reynolds: 2

Peter Bourjos: 1

Kolten Wong: 2

Matt Carpenter: 2

Brandon Moss: 2

Tony Cruz: 1

See what I mean? eleven players with RBI’s, and eight players had more than one RBI in the series. It doesn’t matter who is up to bat, the Cardinals can score runs. The pitching in an essence is the same way. No matter how many hits are given up, the Cardinals use great defense to turn double plays and get out of innings.

The Cardinals appear to be unstoppable heading into September.
