St. Louis Rams: 5 Darkhorse Candidates to Make the 53-Man Roster

While St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher has told the media in recent weeks that much of his opening 53-man roster is already set, there will almost certainly be some surprises come cutdown time over the next few weeks. Perhaps more than any other Rams administration, the tandem of Fisher and GM Les Snead has had a flair for the dramatic when it comes to cutting down to 53. They’ve released five of the their 28 draft picks prior to opening day and cut tenured veterans such as Josh Hull and Kellen Clemens, while keeping a total of 15 undrafted rookies on the opening 53 over the course of their three years in charge.

It may be a slightly tougher challenge for UDFAs to make the team this season since there are now more established players who have spent several years developing in the Rams’ system. However, there are still some opportunities that exist for some darkhorses to make the opening roster, even if no more injuries occur that open up more spots.
