Rams-Cowboys Joint-Practice Day 2: Thoughts/Recap
By Nic Moody
The St Louis Rams kicked off day two of the scrimmage against the Dallas Cowboys Tuesday afternoon, with the practice being cut short due to a brawl that broke out after a Cowboys player leveled Rams running back Tre Mason. (allegedly) Here are some thoughts after today’s camp:
I guess we can discuss the fight first. There were many of them, all stemming from the big brawl, but 4-5 more fights broke out during the course of those events, though nobody was hurt.
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant got punched in the face, as he had his helmet off during the brawl. He lost a couple of earrings, which were later found (Diamond studs of course, so he was relieved to have them back).
Eugene Sims seemed to be the player in the spotlight for the brawl. He threw a blind side push to a Cowboys player which some people deemed “thuggish” and others claimed the action made him “a guy not to mess with”. Eugene explained himself on twitter:

Todd Gurley gave Rams fans quite a scare, as he pulled a completely bone-head rookie move by getting involved in the fight. He could have ended his season over the foolishness, as seen below:
Former Rams running back Eric Dickerson joined the practice on Tuesday, which the players really enjoyed. They should be excited to get advice from a Hall of Fame player (especially Todd Gurley).
The crowd was down to just under 6,000 in attendance, which is down 2,000 from yesterday. Still, a good turnout for both teams.
Rams reporter Myles Simmons reported on the great battle between the great Rams defensive line and the Cowboys wonderful offensive line. Chris Long feels the work helped the Rams and was “a great match-up”. Long has apparently lost some weight in the off-season and appears to be much quicker, both claimed by Chris himself and reported by Jim Thomas.
Wednesday’s practice has been cancelled. Coach Fisher claims the team was “tired” and needs a day off. Some fans aren’t buying that excuse, but we will likely never know the true reason.
The fights are both a good thing, and a bad thing. It’s great to see the Rams fighting for each other and defending each other, but fighting cannot be something that happens repeatedly. That is a great way to lose games. The team is obviously getting closer though, so there is that.
Trumaine Johnson continues to have a wonderful camp. He’s intercepting left and right, and has a boost of confidence since coming into his own. Mostly with trash talk, but most corners and receivers are good at that.
The Rams are having a good camp thus far minus the brawls and petty mistakes. The team is getting better, and expect more than three points on the board when the Rams take on the Titans on Sunday.
